Prayer for ANZAC Day
Gracious and loving God, the cross of Christ is the sign of
your desire for justice and peace for all.
Open our minds to your vision as we remember all who
suffered through Australia and New Zealand’s involvement in
wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Grant all service persons who sacrificed health and life for the
good of all, the gift of your deep peace.
May we who inherit the freedom for which they fought
become instruments of your peace in our homes,
workplaces and the world.
We ask this prayer through
Christ our Lord,
Amen.
St Brigid's Primary School Ballan wishes to acknowledge respectfully the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, work, learn, play and gather.
Thursday 25th April is ANZAC Day. The 2024 Ballan ANZAC Day Dawn Service will be held at the ANZAC Tree in A.A. McLean Reserve starting at 6:00 AM. At this service, our School Captains will provide a short presentation on a current or ex Australian Defence Force member.
Additionally, up to 12 students are invited to march in uniform and with our school banner with Veterans and Emergency Services groups during the 2024 ANZAC Day Afternoon March.
Details of the ANZAC Day March and Afternoon Service are:
- 12:45pm – March participants assemble at the Ballan RSL Hall, 146 Inglis Street, Ballan.
- 1:00pm – commencement of the March from the RSL Hall to the Ballan Cenotaph, 125 Inglis Street, Ballan.
- 1:15pm – commencement of Afternoon Service at the Ballan Cenotaph.
A member of our St Brigid’s community will be asked to lay a wreath on the Cenotaph during the Afternoon Service.
If your child is interested in participating in the ANZAC Day March commencing at 1:00pm and Afternoon Service, please ring the school office on (03) 5368 1015 as soon as possible and prior to 9:00am on Wednesday 24th April, 2024.
The ANZAC Day Services are not official school events supervised by staff and therefore parents and adults are responsible for supervising and collecting their children.
All St Brigid’s Primary School staff and students attending ANZAC Day Services are encouraged to proudly wear their own medals and/or the medals of family members.
This term we make the transition from summer to winter uniform and as the weather is quite unpredictable, either summer or winter uniform will be acceptable for weeks 1 and 2. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct summer or winter uniform including bringing the St Brigid’s school bag to and from school daily.
Children are able to wear the correct sports uniform each Wednesday and on classroom nominated sports day as directed by your child’s classroom teacher.
The St Brigid’s winter uniform consists of the following:
A reminder to please label clothing, lunchboxes, containers, bags and water bottles!
Performing Arts will take place on Tuesday’s with Visual Arts and Physical Education taking place on Wednesday’s. Please ensure your child has an art smock (or old shirt etc) for Visual Arts.
Hot lunches will resume again from Week 3 via the online ordering system - Spriggy Schools.
Please see the brochure for information regarding the Spriggy Schools App.
Please note we are currently working on a new menu and it will be uploaded to app within the coming week.
Volunteers
This term we will re-introduce a roster to help prepare and serve lunches on each Friday. If you are available to help out on a Friday between 11.30am-1.00pm please contact the school office (valid Working with Children Check is required).
The children really enjoy hot lunches and this can only happen with the help of volunteers!
Our next P&F meeting will take place on Thursday 2nd May from 3.15pm - 4.00pm in our school Library. An active P&F committee allows families the opportunity to play a valuable part in providing social and fundraising activities. Please attend this meeting if you are interested in joining our P&F committee. Any help would be greatly appreciated as all funds raised contribute to resources and materials to support your children in their holistic development.
Assemblies have commenced this term. As we now have specialist classes on a Friday afternoon, we will need to move assembly to Friday mornings from 9:00am - 9:20am.
Assembly Schedule Term 2
Week | Class |
Week 3 -03/05/24 | Year 1/2R |
Week 5 - 17/05/24 | Year 4/5A |
Week 7 - 31/05/24 | Year 1/2S |

On Assembly days, members of our St Brigid’s community are invited to meet at the front gate at 8:15am for a leisurely walk. This will be a great opportunity for you and your child to connect with other members of our school community. This walk will include stopping at a local cafe for a hot or cold drink! Our first Step, Sip & Socialise event was a huge success.
Join us on Friday 3rd May for our next Step, Sip & Socialise gathering.
Learners at St Brigid's show bravery, collaboration, curiosity, perseverance and resilience.
We have high expectations for all learners and believe that all our children can learn, improve and succeed. We want our learners to know how to take charge of their own learning and to ‘know what to do when they don’t know what to do’. To support this we have identified five learning dispositions which are explicitly taught at Saint Brigid's.
We encourage all our families to continue to partner with us in developing our children to be brave, collaborative, curious, perseverant and resilient learners
All of the timetabled events (to date) for the school year can be found on our school calendar which can be accessed through PAM and via this newsletter.
