Change of Details
Catholic Education Week 2024 is celebrated from 29th April – 3rd May.
Catholic Education Week is an annual opportunity for Catholic schools in the Diocese of Ballarat to celebrate their distinctive ethos and mission with their school and wider communities.
In 2024, 52 primary schools and 11 secondary Colleges educate more than 18,500 students and employ over 2,500 teachers and staff across the diocese from Mildura in the north, Portland in the south, and west to Edenhope and Nhill.
Catholic Education Week takes on special significance this year as our community of schools recognises the 150th Anniversary of the formation of the Catholic Diocese of Ballarat with the theme:
Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer. (Romans 12:12)
We look forward to our Catholic Education Week celebrations this Friday 3rd May.
Congratulations to the following children who represented St Brigid's at the Cross Country event yesterday at Federation University Ballarat.
Jamie Jarvis, Marcus Speakman, Lukas Stancliffe, Reina Borg, Fletcher Louey, Grace Conlan, Harry Breguet, Angus Muldeary, Isla Doyle, Georgia Shanahan, Archie Clarke, Petar Filipovic, Iris Yearwood, Tate Reardon, Annie McNiven, Anni Clarke & Felix Trinder
Good luck to Anni Clarke who has qualified to compete in the next stage of the Sovereign and Eureka Division Cross Country being held in Warrnambool.
On Thursday 9th May, our P&F will be facilitating a Mother’s Day Stall. On this day, children are invited to bring $5 to school to purchase a gift for their mothers, grandmothers or special people in their lives.
A big thank you to Mickal Trinder and Hayley Plageman for organising and facilitating our Mother’s Day Stall.
This year, students from Year 1-6 will be participating in the Inform & Empower Cyber Safety & Digital Wellbeing program. This means that our classes will be tuning in to live streamed incursions (with their teachers) every term that focus on healthy and safe digital habits. The incursion content is all written and delivered by qualified teachers who are endorsed by the eSafety Commissioner as a Trusted eSafety Provider.
These sessions aim to help children better navigate the online world and become more aware, clever, brave and kind. They will focus on topics including navigating unwanted contact, cyberbullying, help-seeking strategies, unsafe content, balancing screen time with "green time" and sharing personal information.
The following website will provide you with further information regarding Inform and Empower.

On Wednesday 19th June a parent information session with a focus on Raising Kids in a Digital World will take place commencing at 7:00pm at the Ballan Recreation Reserve.
We have now made the transition to winter uniform. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct winter uniform including bringing the St Brigid’s school bag to and from school daily.
Children are able to wear the correct sports uniform each Wednesday and on classroom nominated sports day as directed by your child’s classroom teacher.
The St Brigid’s winter uniform consists of the following:
A reminder to please label clothing, lunchboxes, containers, bags and water bottles!
Performing Arts will take place on Tuesday’s with Visual Arts and Physical Education taking place on Wednesday’s. Please ensure your child has an art smock (or old shirt etc) for Visual Arts.
Hot lunches will resume again from Week 3 via the online ordering system - Spriggy Schools.
Please see the brochure for information regarding the Spriggy Schools App.
Please note we are currently working on a new menu and it will be uploaded to app within the coming week.
Volunteers
This term we will re-introduce a roster to help prepare and serve lunches on each Friday. If you are available to help out on a Friday between 11.30am-1.00pm please contact the school office (valid Working with Children Check is required).
The children really enjoy hot lunches and this can only happen with the help of volunteers!
Our next P&F meeting will take place on Thursday 2nd May from 3.15pm - 4.00pm in our school Library. An active P&F committee allows families the opportunity to play a valuable part in providing social and fundraising activities. Please attend this meeting if you are interested in joining our P&F committee. Any help would be greatly appreciated as all funds raised contribute to resources and materials to support your children in their holistic development.
Assemblies have commenced this term. As we now have specialist classes on a Friday afternoon, we will need to move assembly to Friday mornings from 9:00am - 9:20am.
Assembly Schedule Term 2
Week | Class |
Week 3 -03/05/24 | Year 1/2R |
Week 5 - 17/05/24 | Year 4/5A |
Week 7 - 31/05/24 | Year 1/2S |
Week 9 - 14/06/24 | Foundation |
On Assembly days, members of our St Brigid’s community are invited to meet at the front gate at 8:15am for a leisurely walk. This will be a great opportunity for you and your child to connect with other members of our school community. This walk will include stopping at a local cafe for a hot or cold drink! Our first Step, Sip & Socialise event was a huge success.
Join us on Friday 3rd May for our next Step, Sip & Socialise gathering.
With many enrolments already received for Foundation in 2025, a friendly reminder to current families to please submit enrolment forms for siblings entering Foundation in 2025 via the ‘enrol now’ tab on our website - https://www.sbballan.catholic.edu.au/.
This will assist us in our preliminary stages of planning for 2025.
All of the timetabled events (to date) for the school year can be found on our school calendar which can be accessed through PAM and via this newsletter.
