Prayer for ANZAC DAY
Gracious and loving God, the cross of Christ is the sign of
your desire for justice and peace for all.
Open our minds to your vision as we remember all who
suffered through Australia and New Zealand’s involvement in
wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations.
Grant all service persons who sacrificed health and life for the
good of all, the gift of your deep peace.
May we who inherit the freedom for which they fought
become instruments of your peace in our homes,
workplaces and the world.
We ask this prayer through
Christ our Lord,
Amen.
St Brigid's Primary School Ballan wishes to acknowledge respectfully the Traditional Custodians of the lands on which we live, work, learn, play and gather. We pay respect to their Elders past, present and emerging.
Dear Members of our St Brigid’s Community,
Welcome back to Term 2!
I hope that you all had a wonderful Easter break with your loved ones. We were very excited to be welcoming all children back to school today as we commence Term 2. This term, we are very excited to welcome Pam Sharpe back to St Brigid’s.
Yesterday was ANZAC Day - one of Australia’s most important national occasions. It marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. A big thank you to our School Captains and families who attended the ANZAC Day Dawn Service at McLean reserve in Ballan yesterday. Aoife, Clara and Angus presented a meaningful speech at the service about the story of Simpson and his Donkey.
Prior to the end of term, two Shade Sails were installed and throughout the holidays, works around our school continued including security lighting around our school, gardening and general maintenance - our school is looking fabulous!
This term we are excited to welcome mothers, grandmothers and special women in our lives to our Mother’s Day Breakfast and Liturgy on Friday 12th May. We will commence our celebration with breakfast from 8:30am in the Gathering Space (mother’s grandmother’s and special women only), followed by a Liturgy with the children at 9:00am at St Brigid’s Church).
We look forward to working in partnership with you to ensure that your child has a successful and enjoyable term ahead. Together, we can support your child to achieve their goals and reach their full potential. Thank you for your continued support, and we wish you and your family all the best for the term ahead.
Take care and God bless,
Jayne Bosworth
'Inspire us to act justly and to reverence all God has made.'
Excerpt from St Brigid's Prayer
Last term, each year level facilitated Holy Week liturgies leading up to Easter Sunday. On Thursday 27th April at 9:15am, Year 3/4 will facilitate the final Holy Week Liturgy focussing on Easter Sunday.
This term we make the transition from summer to winter uniform and as the weather is quite unpredictable, either summer or winter uniform will be acceptable for weeks 1 and 2. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct summer or winter uniform including bringing the St Brigid’s school bag to and from school daily.
Children are able to wear the correct sports uniform each Wednesday and on classroom nominated sports day as directed by your child’s classroom teacher.
The St Brigid’s winter uniform consists of the following:
Winter Uniform: Boys Grey long trousers Blue school logo t-shirt Grey school jumper Grey socks with black school shoes – No runners St Brigid’s School back pack |
Winter Uniform: Girls Winter tunic or navy trousers Blue school logo t-shirt Grey school jumper Grey school tights with black school shoes – No runners St Brigid’s School back pack |
SPORTS UNIFORM – Wednesday’s School Rugby Top School Polo Shirt Navy blue track pants (no leggings) White socks Runners |
Jewellery A wristwatch and gold or silver plain studs or sleepers for pierced ear lobes are permitted. Hair Long hair is to be tied back. A hair tie, scrunchie or ribbons may be worn in school colours only (blue, white or yellow). |
A reminder to please label clothing, lunchboxes, containers, bags and water bottles!
Performing Arts will take place on Tuesday’s with Visual Arts and Physical Education taking place on Wednesday’s. Please ensure your child has an art smock (or old shirt etc) for Visual Arts.
It has come to our attention that our school grounds are being accessed after school and on weekends which has resulted in large amounts of rubbish being left around our school and damage to our school grounds including gates, retaining walls, trees and basketball rings. Repairing this damage comes at a significant cost to the school.
In order to preserve our school and in an effort to maintain safe play spaces for our children, St Brigid’s is unable to be accessed before and after school hours and on weekends without permission.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we strive to ensure that St Brigid’s is a place of learning and growth for all of our children.
Hot lunches will resume again from Week 3 via the online ordering system - Spriggy Schools.
Please see the brochure for information regarding the Spriggy Schools App.
Please note we are currently working on a new menu and it will be uploaded to app within the coming week.
Volunteers
This term we will re-introduce a roster to help prepare and serve lunches on each Friday. If you are available to help out on a Friday between 11.30am-1.00pm please contact the school office (valid Working with Children Check is required).
The children really enjoy hot lunches and this can only happen with the help of volunteers!
Learners at St Brigid's show bravery, collaboration, curiosity, perseverance and resilience.
We have high expectations for all learners and believe that all our children can learn, improve and succeed. We want our learners to know how to take charge of their own learning and to ‘know what to do when they don’t know what to do’. To support this we have identified five learning dispositions which are explicitly taught at Saint Brigid's.
We encourage all our families to continue to partner with us in developing our children to be brave, collaborative, curious, perseverant and resilient learners.
All of the timetabled events (to date) for the school year can be found on our school calendar which can be accessed through PAM and via this newsletter.
