Change of Details
Dear Members of our St Brigid’s Community,
As we commence another busy week, let us take a moment to keep members of our community who are unwell in our prayers and thoughts. Last week, I informed the children that our Performing Arts teacher Mr Pete Mullane has recently had surgery on his hip and is currently resting at home. Pete is recovering well and in really good spirits. In Pete’s absence, Ms Tam Wilson will be teaching Performing Arts on Monday’s. Tam has had extensive experience teaching Performing Arts and is already known to the children through her work as a Casual Relief Teacher at St Brigid’s.
As communicated last term, Ricky Whitcher has commenced in the role of Behaviour Support Practitioner through Ready Steady Achieve. This is a very exciting new chapter in Ricky’s career and we wish him all the best in his new position. Part of Ricky’s role at St Brigid’s was Learning Diversity Leader and I’m pleased to inform you that Year 2/3B teacher, Nicole Brightly has stepped into the role of Learning Diversity Leader at St Brigid’s.
Recently, we conducted interviews for the Year 5/6 Classroom Teacher position at St Brigid’s. I am pleased to inform you that Mrs Krystal Conlan has been appointed to this position. Krystal has had extensive experience as a classroom teacher and is committed to providing differentiated learning experiences to assist students to meet learning goals. Krystal is constantly developing her knowledge of evidence-based approaches in order to tailor lessons to meet students’ individual needs. Krystal has recently delivered a small-group targeted Literacy Intervention program to senior students, and observed significant improvements in their reading skills. Krystal will commence at St Brigid’s as a Year 5/6 classroom teacher next week.
On Friday, members of our school leadership team will be visiting St Paul's Catholic Primary School in Mildura to see Structured Literacy in action. Structured Literacy is an approach to literacy instruction that applies a systematic, cumulative, explicit and diagnostic methodology to the teaching of phonology, sound symbol, syllables, morphology, syntax and semantics.
We are looking forward to observing the amazing work that is taking place at St Paul's and we know we will gain many valuable insights during our visit that we can bring back to St Brigid’s.
I look forward to seeing you at 3 - Way Conferences next week.
Take care and God bless,
Jayne Bosworth
'Inspire us to act justly and to reverence all God has made.'
Excerpt from St Brigid's Prayer
Our prayers and thoughts are with the following children who will celebrate the sacrament of Eucharist this term.
Anni Clarke, Milly Conroy, Sophie Barton, Lilly Moshoudis, Tommy Sims and Grace Monterosso.
We wish the following children all the best as they begin their RCIC journey and will celebrate the sacrament of Eucharist later this year.
Ari & Remi Jeandet and Jake Cabrie.
In March this Year, Year 3 and 5 children participated in NAPLAN. Individual NAPLAN reports will be sent home via mail this week. From 2023, new standards have been introduced to NAPLAN reporting. This reporting replaces the previous numerical NAPLAN reporting bands and national minimum standards. Proficiency standards provide clear information on student achievement. They are set at a challenging but reasonable level expected for the child at the time of NAPLAN testing, based mainly on what has been taught in previous years of schooling.
Insight SRC is conducting a survey on behalf of our school and the Diocese of Ballarat Catholic Education Limited. It is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of parents' perceptions of their children’s experience of school. The results will benefit everyone within the school by providing valuable information about the ways in which the school can use staff, student and parent input to plan programs and activities to improve your child's experience at school.
Families will be randomly selected to participate in this survey. Although we strongly encourage participation, participation is voluntary. It is important to remember, however, that the success of this important project is dependent on parents’ involvement. Selected families will receive the invitation to participate via email later this week to be completed by Friday 4th August, 2023.
Year 5/6 students are also invited to participated in this survey.
3-Way Conferences will take place this term on Tuesday 1st August from 2:30pm - 6:00pm and Tuesday 8th August from 1:30pm - 5:00pm. 3-Way Conferences will be 10 minutes in duration. Given the nature of these meetings, it would be wonderful if all students could attend with parents. All families can book a suitable time through PAM/SIMON Everywhere.
If you need any assistance with making a booking please contact Jodie in the office.
We have now transitioned to full winter uniform. Please ensure that your child is wearing the correct winter uniform to school each day including bringing the St Brigid’s school bag to and from school daily.
Children are able to wear sports uniform each Wednesday and on classroom nominated sports day as directed by your child’s classroom teacher. Given the nature of Physical Education lessons, on Wednesday’s children can wear either correct sports shorts or pants.
We are currently exploring options regarding tracksuit pants, sport shorts and rain coats. More details to follow regarding these items.
Hot lunches are up and running via the online ordering system - Spriggy Schools.
Please see the brochure for information regarding the Spriggy Schools App.
Volunteers
This term we will re-introduce a roster to help prepare and serve lunches on each Friday. If you are available to help out on a Friday between 11.30am-1.00pm please contact the school office (valid Working with Children Check is required).
The children really enjoy hot lunches and this can only happen with the help of volunteers!
This Semester, we are very excited to welcome families back to our fortnightly assemblies in the Multipurpose Room. Each fortnight a class will present a small item at assembly (please refer to timetable below). We look forward to seeing you at our assemblies!!

Each year since 1945 the CBCA has brought children and books together across Australia through Children's Book Week. During this time schools and public libraries spend one glorious week celebrating books and Australian children's authors and illustrators. Classroom teachers, teacher librarians and public librarians create colourful displays, develop activities, run competitions and tell stories relating to a theme to highlight the importance of reading.
This year, Book Week will take place from Saturday 19th August to Friday 25th August with the theme, ‘READ, GROW, INSPIRE’. Further information regarding Book Week celebrations at St Brigid’s will be communicated.
All of the timetabled events (to date) for the school year can be found on our school calendar which can be accessed through PAM and via this newsletter.
